Food needs are needs that cannot be separated from human life. To meet national food data the Central Statistics Agency uses the Area Sample Framework method to calculate the national harvest area.

Rice is an important and strategic commodity for the Indonesian people, considering that food in this case rice is a basic human need. Therefore, to guarantee the stability of food security, the Government issued Government Regulation No. 68 of 2002 concerning Food Security as a regulation for the implementation of Law No.7 of 1996 concerning food.

KSA is defined as a sampling approach technique that uses land areas as enumeration units. This system is based on geographic information system (GIS) technology, remote sensing, information technology, and statistics which are currently being implemented in Indonesia for the acquisition of data and information on food crop agriculture. The KSA approach is expected to be able to answer the provision of accurate and timely data and information to support the planning of the National Food Security Program.

In the Middle of Pandemic and some areas that carry out local quarantine, KSA enumerators continue to carry out their duties to obtain accurate harvested area data. Enumeration is done by fulfilling health procedures.
