The National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) is an activity specifically designed to collect data on employment. From this activity, a general picture of labor conditions in Indonesia will be obtained and a shift in the structure of labor between enumeration periods.
The labor theory approach used in Sakernas uses the standard Labor Force Concept (ICLS) as stipulated in the International Conference of Labor Statistics (ICLS). The use of this concept began in 1984 based on ICLS 13. In 2013, the International Labor Organization (ILO) held the 19th ICLS which resulted in the development of several concepts and definitions of employment variables, as well as adjusting the concept of production activities based on the 2008 SNA.
Sakernas activities are carried out twice a year, namely in February and August. Sakernas in February is used for estimating employment figures at the provincial and central levels. While the August National Labor Force Survey is used estimation of employment rates up to the district level. As for the implementation phase, the Sakernas activities have 3 stages of the activity implementation. These stages are updating households in selected census blocks, selecting samples based on the results of the update, and enumerating household samples of Sakernas.
Indicators presented as a result of Sakernas include:
1. Total population of the workforce
2. Number of working population
3. Residents who work by job category
4. Residents who work formally and informally
5. The unemployment rate
6. Level of employment opportunities
7. Level of labor force participation
